The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop Gaming World as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG

The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division will be translated into a tabletop role-playing experience. A partnership was established to create a TTRPG that explores the franchise’s apocalyptic landscape. The project was revealed, with a funding drive scheduled to begin in April of 2026.

"This endeavor will bring the franchise’s distinctive tension, strategic depth, and iconic world-building to the tabletop, providing fans a fresh avenue to engage with The Division through immersive storytelling and mission-based gameplay," states an official release.

Initial offerings will include a starter set, core rulebooks, a Game Master screen, miniatures, and various deluxe editions.

Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World

In this universe, a lethal pathogen called Green Poison was unleashed in New York City, plunging the United States into chaos. As the crisis escalates, society crumbles and hostile groups emerge, transforming the urban landscape into a warzone. To preserve law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of undercover operatives. That’s where the players enter the story.

Work on the game has been in progress for about several years, and it is reportedly complete. The forthcoming crowdfunding effort will serve as a pre-launch sales platform to reach a wider audience, specifically in the United States. Manufacturing will start immediately following the fundraiser, with shipping expected for later in 2026.

An Innovative Tactical System: The GRIS System

A preview at the game's rules reveals it employs 10-sided dice exclusively through its proprietary GRIS system, promoting a streamlined and tactical style. Agents leverage abilities to roll small dice pools, typically between one and five d10s.

  • Instead of summing the total, participants choose a single “resolution die” from the group.
  • This dice is then measured against a target difficulty.
  • Achieving a perfect 10 grants special effects, such as increased harm or boosted support.

Engagements Emphasize Tactical Placement and Situational Insight

Battles stress placement and situational awareness, mirroring the video games. Elements like cover, height advantage, or line of sight directly influence dice rolls. This mechanic is designed to favor coordination and clever tactics instead of raw numbers.

A Novel Wound Mechanic

The way health is tracked introduces a compelling thematic twist. Agents have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits weakens their capabilities by decreasing the number of d10s.

  1. At critical condition, an operative is downed, but they’re not unconscious.
  2. They can still crawl and take limited actions, emulating the last stand seen in video game shooters.
  3. Any agent knocked down must consult a injury chart, potentially gaining lingering conditions like shock or crippling injuries.

A Ready-to-Play Scenario

A publicly available introductory rulebook is promised soon. It includes a pre-made starting adventure titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, players lead the search for a missing medical team and work to stop an assault by the violent Rikers gang, who have taken over that NYC neighborhood. More specifics and the complete product lineup will be detailed near the Kickstarter start date.
