Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a large-scale and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is not yet known and the American officials has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a several projectiles," it added.

The statement noted debris fell on a populated district in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
