A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.

Although not quite at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, donated by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted the pig's pardon.
